Weight Loss Diets

Probably the most popular and well known way to lose weight is through dieting. By eating healthier foods and cutting down on those that are bad for you, it is possible to lose a significant amount of weight whilst looking and feeling healthier.

The main problem with dieting (other than sticking to it!) is choosing a diet to suit you. There are many suggested diets, and you will have no doubt heard of some of the most popular, such as the Atkins diet.

Atkins Diet

The Atkins diet is based around the scientific fact that the body burns carbohydrates first, so if you lower your daily intake your body will quickly start to burn excess fat instead. The diet is strict, and it is recommended that you take in no more than 20g of carbohydrates per day for the first few weeks before increasing gradually. There have been mixed reports as to the success of this diet as well as potential health risks, though it should be remembered that most diets involve cutting out certain food groups, so you should make sure that you are still getting all the vitamins and minerals that your body requires.

Weight Watchers Diet

The Weight Watchers diet is another very popular diet. This diet does not limit what foods you can eat, but assigns points to each meal you have. You can eat whatever you like, as long as you stay within your daily points limit. Foods that are bad for you, such as fast foods and chocolate, have higher points as to discourage you from eating them regularly and consider them more as treats. This is a very popular diet and again is proven to work well if you stick within your daily limits. The points system also goes some way to ensuring that you are taking in what your body needs.

Raw Foods Diet

The Raw Foods diet is based around eating what foods you can, raw. Foods such as vegetables lose a lot of their nutrients once cooked, so eating them raw has nutritional intake benefits. This diet is limited, as a lot of foods must be cooked and unless you have flair in the kitchen, it can be hard to stick to. However, you can adopt this attitude into any diet – simply replace snacks and main meal accompaniments with raw vegetables such as carrot sticks, for example.

Seafood Diet

Seafood diets are also popular, as fishes and shellfish contain a lot vitamins and minerals. It is also appealing as it is different, and leaves a lot of options open for you, especially if you’re a seafood lover.

There are more diets than could be listed here, but whatever diet you choose, make sure it fits in with your lifestyle. You’re going to have to make sacrifices in order to lose weight, but by selecting a diet that incorporates foods that you enjoy, you can turn your weight-loss program into an enjoyable challenge rather than a chore. Remember to treat yourself once in a while with something you really enjoy for sticking to your diet, again as an incentive to keep up the hard work. The various diets have different rates of success, and some plans will help you lose weight more than others. Read up about any you are interested in and make sure to check that you’re still going to be taking in all the vitamins and minerals your body requires.
