for Weight LossUsing Boxing Bags To Get In Shape
The boxing bag, also known as a heavy bag or punching bag,
has been in existence since the dawn of organized military
and martial arts training. Today, this specialized piece of
training equipment can be found in most commercial fitness
centers and some home gyms. It usually hangs from the
ceiling and is packed with sand, grains, rags or other
material. The weight of the bag is normally between 25 to
150 pounds and is primarily covered with leather, canvas or
vinyl. These materials resist mildew and can effectively
take the daily beatings the bags receive.
Repeatedly punching this type of bag has proven to be a very
effective workout. Many professional trainers implement this
form of physical exercise into their daily routines. Most
weight loss programs usually include a boxing bag workout as
well. Utilizing the heavy bag will provide a comprehensive
cardiovascular and full body workout that builds strength,
stamina and quickness - it’s also a great way to relieve
stress. Not only will this workout help arms, shoulders and
abs, it will also help to increase mobility and balance. Due
to the force when one hits the bag, it is highly advisable
to use punching or boxing gloves.
In addition to standard heavy bags, other specialty bags are
available. The speed bag is a chin level bag that assists
with rapid striking. The double-end bag is similar to a
punching bag but two ropes elevate it. When punched, the bag
moves and forces the striker to readjust techniques. There
is also an uppercut bag. It has a pear shape to it and helps
strikers work on their uppercuts. There are now
free-standing
boxing bags that make a home work out easier to achieve.
The punching bag is usually hung so that one can move
completely around it. Adding in mock defensive maneuvers,
along with a little fancy foot movement, makes the boxing
bag one of the most effective tools one can use to lose
weight and get in shape.
