Dancing is an increasingly popular activity, suitable for
the young and old alike. Specialist dancing, such as belly and
salsa are particularly popular, and are responsible for
getting more and more people active. Not only will you get
fitter, you will also get the chance to meet new people and be
a part of a group. The benefits are numerous, and not just
physical. The sense of well-being that can be achieved whilst
learning a new skill or being a part of something is very
rewarding.
Dancing will require a time investment, and ideally a few
short hours every week will be required to progress at a
reasonable rate. Typically, lessons are not all that
expensive, particularly if it is a larger group, so there is
little reason not to at least give it a go. There will be
people from a variety of backgrounds, so there is no reason to
feel self conscious – you’re unlikely to be the only one that
hasn’t danced before!
As for weight loss, the results largely depend on the type
of dancing you take up. Slow dancing will be less intensive
and is unlikely to burn many calories, though something a
little more active will have your heart racing and you’ll get
fitter and thinner in no time.
There is no reason not to give it a go, and who knows you
might really enjoy it! Many swear by it, and again it doesn’t
matter if you’re 25 or 75, there is something out there for
everyone.
