for Weight LossYoga for Weight Loss
Yoga is not a particularly effective way to lose weight,
though does provide other benefits. The main principle behind
yoga is enlightenment, where you can learn to control your
body and your mind. It is derived from a very spiritual
background, though is more often seen as a refreshing form of
exercise and release in the western world.
The problem with yoga is that it consists of many positions
and gentle movements. Although these will aid keeping fit and
becoming more flexible, the nature of yoga does not lead
itself to intense physical exertion, so you will not burn many
calories at all.
Yoga is suited to all, young and old, and does not require
you to be particularly fit. Although you need to follow
instructions carefully to get the best out of yoga, you can
attend sessions at a leisure centre fairly inexpensively or
practice from the comfort of your own home with one of may
DVD’s and Videos available. This makes it accessible to all,
too, so there is no excuse not to try yoga if you’ve
considered it in the past.
There aren’t any special requirements, other than a tutor
or DVD and possibly a yoga mat if you intend to practice
regularly to add comfort.
So, you’re unlikely to lose much weight practicing yoga,
but the mental and physical benefits that go along with it
will improve your control over mind and body, as well as allow
you to relax and release tension, so even if you are looking
primarily to lose weight, there is no reason not to look into
yoga to go alongside your diet or exercise plan.
